Memphis native Randy Brown is among the
absolutely best soul singers of his
generation. Though his career produced few
hits, his albums are highly prized
collectors’ items.
Randy’s recording debut was
at Stax Records as lead singer of The
Newcomers. After a hit single, 'Pin The Tail
On The Donkey, ' Randy left the group to go
solo with 'Did You Hear Yourself' for the
Stax imprint Truth Records. He cut a few
more sides for Truth, but Stax crashed in
1975 before they were released.
Randy did a few local singles
before signing with Casablanca in L.A.
Casablanca put out four albums (two on
Parachute, and two on Chocolate City).
By the ‘80s, Randy was back
in Memphis with Soundtown Records, owned by
Stax colleagues Homer Banks and Chuck Brooks. A single was released, but
for various reasons an album was never
marketed.
After more than 20 years in the can, LocoBop
is delighted to make this album available.
“Bridges” is a timeless collection of great
songs, wonderfully produced, and flawlessly
performed by Randy Brown. Go to tracks
include the gorgeous ballads BEDROOM EYES
and LEAVE THE BRIDGES STANDING, plus
the funky GIVE IT
ALL YOU GOT. |
